Willie Mitchell, 79, of Elyria, OH, peacefully passed away at home on Saturday, August 24, after living a full life. He battled a lengthy illness and fought a good fight for more than two years.
He was born November 17, 1944, in West Helena, Arkansas, to Eugene and Ruthie (Meeks) Mitchell. He graduated from Eliza Miller High School in 1963. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy upon graduation and served in the armed forces for four years. After his honorable separation from the military, he moved to Elyria and began working at General Motors where he retired after 45 years of dedicated service in 2013.
Willie loved golfing, fishing, playing cards and smoking his cigars. He enjoyed sitting on the back patio relaxing in his spare time and sitting in his garage talking to the neighbors as they passed by his home in which he lived for more than 50 years. He loved to watch Westerns, Let’s Make a Deal and Price is Right. He loved to tell jokes and tease his young grandchildren about leprechauns living in the backyard.
He is survived by three daughters, Erika (Joseph) Carter, Kim Davis and Keisha Mitchell; three sons, Michael (Marriott) Brown, Jamie Mitchell, and Kevin (Patricia) Jackson; granddaughters, Hannah Mitchell, Alexandria Mitchell, Alexia Mitchell, Makayla Davis, Da’Jon Rosser, Mar’Shae Rosser, Aliyah Oliver, Cherelle Elliot, Deja Jackson, Kiara Jackson and Destinee Jackson; grandson, Kristopher (Jacqui) Holloway; sisters, Gertha Mitchell, Ollie (Dexter) Gray, QueenEster Mitchell Shepherd and Ruthann (Ellis) Rowry; brother, Eugene (Bertha) Mitchell Jr.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and special friends who will cherish his memory.
