Chief Petty Officer Russell Moye Sr

Chief Petty Officer Russell Moye Sr., U.S. Navy (Ret.), 68, of Lorain, Ohio, was called home to be with the Lord on December 23, 2024, at Hospice of the Western Reserve in Westlake, Ohio surrounded by his loving family. Russell was born in Lorain, Ohio on April 15, 1956, the oldest of eight children and identical twin brother of Ronald “Randy” Moye.   

Russell grew up in Lorain with his siblings and graduated from Lorain High School in 1974. He began his military career shortly after in November 1974, joining the U.S. Navy and rose to the rank of Chief Petty Officer by the time of his retirement in April 1999. Throughout his distinguished service, he was stationed at various locations, held significant roles, and was awarded many prestigious decorations and medals including the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, and the Rifle Marksmanship Ribbon to name a few. He proudly dedicated over 25 years to the service of his country.   

Russell loved playing the guitar and was the member of various bands over the years, including the family band, The Fabulous Techniques, The Ballard Brothers, and New Creation Baptist Church, where he was an active member.   

Russell leaves behind to cherish his memory his children, Russell (Vanessa) Moye Jr., of Ohio, Rashawn Moye, of North Carolina, April Moye and Brittany (Eugene) Moye-Gianotti, of Texas, Kenyatta and Christopher Moye, of Georgia, 13 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, 7 siblings, including Ronald “Randy” (Lola) Moye, Patricia Moye, Mary Ann Williams, Denise Crisp, Ronald Crisp, Marnina Williams, and Helen Ballard (Undrae), one uncle, George Moye, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.   

Russell was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Alice Moye and Donald Davis, and his grandparents, Mary Virginia and Luchain Moye.   

Visitation will be Friday, January 17, 2025, from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. at Brown- Robinson Funeral Home & Celebration Center, 6075 Middle Ridge Road, Lorain OH 44053. The Rev. Marilyn Parker-Jeffries of New Creation Baptist Church will officiate the services. Repass immediately following the service at Knights of St. John, 1620 Kansas Ave, Lorain, Ohio, 44052.
