Ruby Delores Dickerson, 84, of Elyria, passed away on August 10, 2022. She was born in Electric Mills, Mississippi on October 3, 1937. She was raised in Erie, Pennsylvania where she graduated in 1956 from Academy High School. Following high school, she was employed at the Hammermill Paper Co. before marrying McKinley Dickerson on October 18, 1958. She then moved to Elyria, Ohio where she raised five children. After many years as a homemaker, she entered the workforce at Chapelwood Nursery School and completed her career as a teachers’ aide at Murray Ridge School. Ruby was a lifelong member of the NAACP-Elyria Branch and a founding member/treasurer of WIN (Women in NAACP). She was a lifelong member of Fairfield Missionary Baptist Church in Lorain. She was an avid reader, loved traveling, nature, music, and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Ruby leaves to cherish her memory her five children, Gary M. (Priscilla) Dickerson, Patricia (John) Peterson, Gregory (Martha) Dickerson, Pamela Dickerson and Booker Dickerson Jr.; a sister, Betty (Melvin) Witherspoon; nine grandchildren; two brothers-in-law, Andrew Dickey and Rev. Roger Dickerson, and other loving relatives and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, McKinley Dickerson; her parents, Morris and Bessie Bailey; two sisters, Virginia Bell and Morris Leona Dickey. Visitation will be Friday, August 19, 2022 from 9:30 AM until time of service at 11:00 AM at Second Baptist Church, 427 Chapman Lane, Elyria OH 44035. Pastor Quentin Michael Dickerson of Tennessee will officiate. Burial will be in Brookdale Cemetery, Elyria.
