Rebecca Whitfield Abrams, 62, of Lorain, departed from her earthly home on Monday, September 4, 2023, following a brief illness. She was born March 14, 1961 in Oberlin, Ohio and was a lifelong resident of Lorain.
Rebecca worked many years for LCCAA and was an amazing Head Start teacher. She also worked as a Poll Worker for the Lorain County Board of Elections. She was a member of Antioch Baptist Church of Lorain, where she served on the Mother Board. Rebecca loved teaching and applying her gift as a dedicated Sunday school teacher. Her ability to captivate the minds of the students and keep them engaged was truly God-given.
Rebecca found joy in witnessing, singing in the choir, handing out scriptural pamphlets and visiting nursing homes. She always looked forward to any opportunity to spread the love and the gospel of Jesus Christ. She also enjoyed fishing, playing cards and tinkering with electronics. Her favorite pastime was eating frozen grapes and snacking on ice.
Rebecca leaves to cherish her memory, her husband of 27 years Avery Alvin Abrams; a daughter, Tamika (Jeff) Hasan; sons, DeTroy Lamont Whitfield, Greg Fleming, and Avery Callaway; her grandchildren, Rashad Hasan, Asilla Hasan, NaVaya Hasan, Detroya L Whitfield and Priscilla A Whitfield and her great grandchildren; one sister, Mary Gibson, and one brother, Ricky Whitfield; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and other loving relatives and friends.
Rebecca was preceded in death by her parents, Johnnie B. Whitfield and Dovie Stellmacher; a sister, Naomi Riggins, and a brother, John Whitfield.
Visitation will be Saturday, September 16, 2023, from 11 a.m. time the of her service at 12 Noon at New Bethel Primitive Baptist Church, 3880 Dayton Ave., Lorain OH 44052. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Lorain.
