Raymond "Unc" Tate

Raymond “Unc” Tate, 68, of Lorain, passed away Tuesday, July 3, 2024, unexpectedly at Mercy Regional Medical Center. He was born February 5, 1956, in Cleveland, Ohio to the late L.G. Tate and Florida May Lewis. 

Raymond graduated in 1975 from East High School in Cleveland. After graduating, he enlisted into the United States Army for two years. In 1977, Raymond and his childhood sweetheart Gayle Smith gave birth to their only child, Dion Raymond Smith. 

Raymond was a member of God’s Believers in Christ Church in Lorain. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, and was the life of the party with his dancing moves. 

Raymond leaves to cherish his memory his son, Dione Raymond Smith; two grandchildren, Dione Smith Jr., and My’Ivory Smith; his sisters, Jannie, Davenport, of Lorain, Marian (Stanley) Weaver, of Cleveland, and Theresa Tate, of Lorain; a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends. 

Raymond was preceded in death by his parents, L.G. and Florida Tate; a brother, Louis George Tate; and two sisters, Christine and Vivian Tate. 

Visitation hours will be held Wednesday, July 10, 2024, from 6 to 8 PM at Brown-Robinson Funeral Home and Celebration Center, 6075 Middle Ridge Road, Lorain OH 44053. His funeral service will be Thursday, July 11, at 11 AM at God’s Believers in Christ Church, 520 W. 22nd St, Lorain OH, with Pastor James L Williams officiating. The burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery with military honors.
