Mearlean Fields, 84, of Elyria, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, July 22, 2022, surrounded by loved ones. Mearlean was born on Monday, February 8, 1938, in Huntsville, Alabama, coming to Elyria, Ohio in 1950. Mrs. Fields retired from Elyria Memorial Hospital after 42 years’ service. Mearlean had been a long-standing member of Mt. Nebo Primitive Baptist Church of Elyria. She began attending the church with her family at the early age of fifteen and throughout the remaining years with her own husband and family. Mearlean was an avid and faithful member at Mt. Nebo Church. Mearlean served as Secretary on the Mothers Board, Mother on the Pastor's Aide Ministry, Member of the Women’s Auxiliary and assisted with the Helping Hands Ministry. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, and spending quality time with her children, grandchildren, and family. She will be greatly missed by her daughter, Denise (David) Ammons of North Ridgeville; sons, Eddie Fields Jr. of Elyria, Dennis (Denise) Fields of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Dwayne (Michelle) Fields of Lakewood; dear cousin, Annie B. Frazier of California; 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eddie S. Fields; parents, Thelma Fields, and Earvin Garner; grandmother, Carrie Crutcher; and grandfather, Matt Crutcher. Friends may call from 11a.m. until time of service at 12p.m. on Friday, July 29, 2022, at Second Baptist Church, 427 Chapman Lane, Elyria, where Elder Kevin L. Fields will officiate. Burial will be in Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon. The family is requesting face masks to be worn.
