LaQuita Kemp-Johnson

LaQuita Kemp-Johnson started her eternal journey Thursday, March 13, 2025.

LaQuita was born June 1, 1946, in Louisville, Kentucky. She attended Sharpsburg Baptist Church, and graduated from Bath County High School in 1964. She moved to Cleveland, Ohio in 1969 and made Oberlin her permanent residence in 1974.

LaQuita Kemp-Johnson battled many illnesses and afflictions over the years. She stood faithful in the Lord through it all. This was made evident in her service to Christ Temple Apostolic Church, which spanned over 52 years. She loved the Lord and she loved her family. She served as a Sunday School teacher, choir member, usher board member, and worked on the candy committee. LaQuita also loved to cook, work puzzles, and crochet.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her son, Walter Thomas Kemp; her daughter, Vonetta Kemp; grandchildren, Walter Thomas Kemp, Jr., Allana Kemp, Dwayne Kemp, Jr.; her sisters, Gail Jones and Sarah Jones-Wimbley (Tony); brothers, Ronald Jones, Donald Jones (Kathy), Mikah Jones (Diane); as well as beloved nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward W. Kemp, Nellie Kemp Jones, and stepfather, Ray Jones; sisters, Estrellita Washington and Sue Kemp; and her son, Dwayne E. Kemp, Sr.

Visitation will be held Friday, March 28, 2025, from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. in Christ Temple Apostolic Church, 370 West Lincoln Street, Oberlin, Ohio. Suffragan Bishop, Dr. Laurence E. Nevels will officiate the service. Interment to take place in Westwood Cemetery, 455 Morgan Street, Oberlin, Ohio.
