Jimmie Smith, 70, of Lorain, passed away Wednesday, March 30, 2022 in Mercy New Life Hospice following a lengthy illness. He was born October 10, 1951 in Lapine, Alabama and had been a resident of Lorain since 1974. Jimmie was a former member of New Bethel Baptist Church in Lapine, Alabama, and attended the Fairfield Baptist Church in Lorain. He worked for many years at the Ford Motor Co. plant in Lorain. He started his own blacktop business in 1997 called “Smith Black Topping”. Jimmie enjoyed listening to music, playing his guitar, cooking, spending time with his family, playing corn hole, cards and going to the casino. Jimmie leaves to cherish his memory six children, Jiimmeelle Smith, Shyomill Smith, Suknekka (Steven) Casteel, Du’Shon (Lloyd) Lee, Antijuan Byrd, and Le’Shannon Byrd; and host of grandchildren and great children; 10 siblings Flynn Smith Jr., Glen (Robin) Smith, George (Marilyn) Smith, Judy Smith, Felicia Smith, Doris (Samuel) Figueroa, Morris (Robin) Smith, Joe Smith, Lee (Connie) Smith, Shelia (Corey) Moore; and host of other loving relatives and friends. Jimmie was preceded into death by his wife, Grace Ann Smith, née Dowell, his parents, Flynn Sr. and Ivory Jean Smith, a sister, Mary Frances Smith, and a brother-in-law, Jim Smith. Visitation will be held Thursday April 7, 2022 from 10AM until time of services at 11AM at Living Word Church, 2002 E 28th St, Lorain 44055. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
