Jerry McKenzie

Jerry McKenzie, a beloved daughter, mother, grandmother, cousin, and friend of the Lorain community, passed away on October 15, 2024, at the age of 76. She was born on April 6, 1948, in Dublin, Georgia to Vernstine Drain (neé Guice) and the late Mathew Anderson. 

Jerry grew up in Lorain and graduated from Lorain High School. She was formally employed at U.S. Steel and the Lorain Board of Education. She enjoyed cooking, line dancing and helping her family. Jerry was known for her kind heart, her infectious smile, and unwavering dedication to helping others; a true pillar of the community, and always willing to give a helping hand to those in need. 

Jerry will be remembered for her positive spirit, sense of humor, and zest for life by her four children: Charles Maurice Jackson, Shadiye Jackson, Yamini Kaye McKenzie, and Idris Ali Jackson (Lori Jackson); 13 grandchildren: Tyleah Jackson, Briana Ruiz, Zakiyah Wesley, Isaiah Robinson, Mechai Slaughter, Alina Jackson, Elijah McKenzie, Trinity Jackson, Landon Jackson, Tabari Jackson, Tyrese Jackson, Callan Jackson, and Nadia Jackson; 4 great grandchildren: ZAriah Ruiz, Cartier Ruiz, Ka’Mari Ruiz, and Kylee Jerry; her sister, Jaqueline (Kevin) Micheal; a sister-in-law, Mariam Austin; nieces and nephews: Lestina Austin, Kristen Austin, and Luis Austin III; her favorite cousin, Vivian Rush; and a host of other loving relatives. 

Jerry was preceded into death by her husband, Charles Arthur Jackson; her father, Mathew Anderson; a brother, Luis Austin Jr; and her grandmother and grandfather, Odell and Paralee Guyton.  

Visitation will be Friday, October 18, 2024, from 9:30AM until time of her services at 10:00AM at Brown Robinson Funeral Home & Celebration Center, 6075 Middle Ridge Road, Lorain Ohio 44053. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery, Lorain.
