James Taylor

James Taylor

James Taylor, 95, of Lorain, passed away December 23, 2024, at Pleasant Lake Villa Nursing Home in Parma.  

James was born September 6, 1929, in Boomer, West Virginia. He was the first born of 16 children to his parents, Richard Taylor, Sr. and Rachel (née Moon) Taylor. He graduated from Elkhorn Negro High School in 1949. After graduating, he joined the United States Army where he served as a Communication Wire Specialist during the Korean War for two years. After his honorable discharge he moved to Lorain in 1954.   

James retired from the City of Lorain after 30 years of service. He later became a crossing guard for the City of Lorain School System for almost 20 years. He was a member of Greater Saint Matthew AME Church, where he served as the janitor for over 43 years. He was also a member of the VFW Post #8226, where he was a life-time member, and a member of the American Legion Post #0030.  

James will be sadly missed by his son James C. Taylor; his girls, Eunice Berry of Akron, Ruby Board of Lorain, Ida Williams of Elyria, and Takisha (Christopher) Henke of Lorain; 14 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, 21 great-great grandchildren, and two great-great-great grandchildren; two brothers, Leonard (Joyce) Taylor and Harold Taylor; two sisters, Rachel Goodwin and Velma Kimbro; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other loving relatives.  

James was preceded into death by his wife, Lillian M Taylor; his parents, Richard and Rachel Taylor Sr.; two sons, John Taylor and LaMarr W Mormon Sr.; five brothers, Robert, Richard, Carl, Riley, and Douglas; six sisters, Jerline (his twin), Lillie, Hattie, Carolyn, Carol, and Betty.  

Visitation will be Tuesday, January 7, 2025, from 11 a.m. until the time of service at 12 p.m. at Brown-Robinson Funeral Home & Celebration Center, 6075 Middle Ridge Rd., Lorain, OH 44053. The burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Lorain.
