James Holloway

James Holloway was born September 2, 1947, in Oberlin, Ohio to Fred E and Luereacie (Knight) Holloway. He was the sixth of seven children born to this union. James transitioned this life on August 12, 2021 at New Life Hospice Center in Lorain. James grew up in Rust United Methodist Church. He attended Oberlin High School and graduated in 1963. James was drafted into the service after graduation and served for four years, including two tours in Vietnam. He was awarded a Bronze Star for Outstanding Achievement during the Vietnam War. After his honorable discharge, he went to work for the Cuyahoga Valley Railroad as an inspector. He attended Tri-C Community College in 1970 studying business. During this time, he met and married Patricia (White) in 1970, and to this union was born two children, James R. Jr., and Jonathon M. He was employed at Beaver Children’s Home as a counselor, before moving to Dallas where he was employed at Paul Quinn College, the first historically Black faith-based college in Texas. James belonged to Central Star Lodge #7, 32 degree mason PHA, Medji Temple in Fort Walter PHA, Grand Knights Templer level of the state of Texas. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle and working in his yard with his flowers and garden. He is survived by the love of his life and the mother of his children, Patricia Burton; sons, James R. of Lorain and Jonathon M. (Cherilyn) of Elyria; his 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; sisters, Martha (Pat) Hodge, Luereacie Holloway of Oberlin, Aida L Dixon of Pataskala, OH, Louise Glover of Belmont, NC, and brother Ralph B (Sandra) Holloway of Ontario, CA, and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Fred and Luereacie, sisters Carrie Linell Walker, brothers Albert C. and David L Holloway. Friends may call at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 20th at Rust United Methodist Church, 128 Groveland St, Oberlin, OH, where a masonic service will be held at 11:45. Services will be at Noon with Bishop Steve Robinson of City of Deliverance officiating.
