Jacqueline Mary Lee (Thornhill) Johnson

Jacqueline Mary Lee Johnson, 87, of Lorain, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, September 10, 2024, at Mercy New Life Hospice following a bravely fought battle with cancer. She was born October 9, 1936, in Coaldale, West Virginia and graduated from Elkhorn High School in Elkhorn, West Virginia. She spent a short time living in New York before moving to Lorain, Ohio in 1957. 

Jacqueline graduated from Cleveland State in 1970 and was certified as a Lab Technician. She worked at St. Joseph Hospital in Lorain, Ohio and Oberlin Hospital in Oberlin, Ohio. In 1985, she completed her certification as a Chemistry Specialist from Lorain Community College. She worked for Gilford Industries in Oberlin, Ohio for many years where she was promoted from Specialist Chemist to Application Specialist in the Research and Development Department until she retired. 

She was a very kind, caring, loving and compassionate person who enjoyed family gatherings, socializing with friends and tending to her many plants. Jacqueline liked entertaining, traveling the world, music and hosting family and friends. She loved children, animals, history, science and being an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she was baptized on November 8th, 1981. She also taught Sunday School and was a member of the Relief Society. She was also a long-time member of the Lorain County Senior Center in Lorain, Ohio. In her later years, she volunteered at the Mercy New Life Hospice where she provided support and comfort to patients and their families. 

Jacqueline will be sadly missed by her two daughters, Sharron (Willie) Farris of Columbus, Ohio and Carol Kennedy of Plymouth, England; her brother, Bobby Thornhill of Columbus, Ohio; two grandsons, Steven Johnson of St. Petersburg, Florida and Iniko Ridgeway of Meridian, Mississippi, and 6 great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and family friends. Special friends and family include Osie Chaney, Mary Lee, David and Jenny Ludlow, John and Sherian Villers, niece Drema Hagwood, goddaughter Joyce Arbertha, sister-in-law Estella Vaughn and her husband John Vaughn, and daughter-in-law Lizette Johnson. 

Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her husband Roosevelt and son Steven; parents Robert Sidney Thornhill and Hallie Louise Thornhill; sisters Ruby Louise (Bradshaw) Wade and Ollie Mae (Bradshaw) Sanders; and brothers Harry Vertis Bradshaw, Sandy Landon Bradshaw and Charles Albert Bradshaw.  

A viewing will be held Saturday, Sept. 21, 2024, from 10 AM until the time of funeral services at 11 AM at , 3501 Kolbe Road, Lorain, OH 44053. Immediately following the service, her interment will be at Resthaven Memory Gardens in Avon, Ohio.
