Harlan “Jimmy” Felton

Harlan “Jimmy” Felton (Sweet Potato), 72, of Lorain, transitioned peacefully on February 26, 2023 at University Hospital of Elyria after a lengthy illness.

Sweet was born on November 15, 1950 to William Felton and Elizabeth L. Jackson. During his early years he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his mother. He was the true definition of a mama's boy. He was described as a gentle giant with a heart of gold.

Sweet attended school in Lorain, Ohio. He was drafted into the U.S Army and served in Vietnam from May of 1970 to January of 1972. He took pride in being a Vietnam Veteran and was not shy to share stories from that time. Sweet fought bravely and believed that his duty was for a good cause.

His attention to detail, physical strength and coordination made him a perfect lineman at Ford Motor Company. Sweet enjoyed the finer things in life and would work hard to ensure he had them. He retired from Ford Local Union 425 UAW on March 30, 2012 after 35 years of service.

When not working at Ford, Sweet would often pick up side jobs at bars around Lorain County. In his spare time he enjoyed riding bikes, making and eating good food, and spending time with friends and family. Sweet also enjoyed watching westerns and listening to smooth jazz. Sweet had a great sense of humor and could crack a joke about anything. He was most proud of his daughters and grandson who also shared his same ambition.

Sweet leaves to mourn his two loving daughters Olivia Gardner and Termeice Gardner, his grandson Tyrese Gardner, four brothers; James A. Jackson, John H. Jackson Jr., Joseph I. Jackson Sr., Michael D. Jackson Sr., his five sisters Jewel Burnett; Michigan, Valerie Church; Columbus, Cheryl Clark; Florida, Janice Jackson; Lorain, and Patricia Jackson; Lorain and a host of other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother Elizabeth L. Jackson, his father William Felton, brother Raymond Felton, and sister Johnnie Mae Day.

Viewing will be held Friday, March 10, 2023 from 10am until the time of service at 11am at Brown-Robinson Funeral Home, 2652 Broadway Ave. Lorain, Ohio. Burial will take place in Elmwood Cemetery.
