George Washington Dowell Jr., aka “Manie”, 58, formerly of Lorain, unexpectedly passed away at Baptist Health Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky on November 9, 2024, surrounded by his wife, his two sisters, and his sister-in-law.
George was born on July 12, 1966, to George W. Sr and Betty Jean Dowell, in Lorain, Ohio. He graduated from Admiral King High School, Lorain, Ohio, in 1987. He was a popular “DJ” performing at various parties in the neighborhood. He loved to listen to music, go fishing, watch TV shows, including Andy Griffith, Sanford & Son and Family Feud. He also loved to cook and was a self-proclaimed grill master. He loved family gatherings and spending time with lifelong friends.
George was formerly employed as a Plant Operational Manager for MPW Industrial Services who contracted their services at the former US Steel plant. He also was a member of the Body of Christ Church, Lorain, where the pastor is Bishop Rodney L Thomas Jr.
George “Manie” leaves behind his wife of 28 years, Tangela T. Dowell; two sisters, Darlene and Dyan Dowell; four nephews, Courtney Smith; Derek Dowell; Terrell Jeter and Korllin McDowell; his father-in-law, Arvin Glenn Turner Sr; sister-in-law, Courtney Turner; brothers-in-law Arvin Glenn Turner Jr. and Issac (Rachael) Turner; three aunts, Rosemary Reed, Alice Marie Thornhill and Linda (Robert) Gantt; his uncle, David (Josephine) Reed; nieces and nephews; a host of other loving relatives and friends.
George was preceded in death by a child, baby Rena Marie Dowell; both of his parents, George W. Sr. and Betty Jean Dowell; maternal grandparents, Mary Alice and Roosevelt Reed; paternal grandparents, Ermon and Rena Dowell; and his mother-in-law, Anna Bell Means.
Family visitation will be held on Friday, November 22, 2024, from 6-8 p.m. at Brown Robinson Funeral Home & Celebration Center, 6075 Middle Ridge Road, Lorain, Ohio 44053. Funeral services will be Saturday, November 23, 2024, at 11:00 a. m. at Living Word Church, 2002 E 28th Street, Lorain, Ohio 44055, with Pastor Sian Johnson of Word and Worship Ministries, Officiant and his nephew, Elder Courtney Smith, Eulogist.
Burial will be held Monday, November 25, 2024, at 11:00 a.m.at Elmwood Cemetery, Lorain.
