Freddie Rush

Freddie Rush, 91, transitioned peacefully in his home surrounded by family on December 24, 2021. He was born on December 3, 1930, in West Virginia. He grew up in Montgomery, Alabama and has been a resident of Lorain, Ohio for over 65 years. He was the son of Eugene “Fat Boy” Rush and Margeret (Lee) Rush. He retired from U.S. Steel in Lorain and worked there for thirty-five years. Freddie was a deacon and faithful member of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in Lorain for over 50 years. He enjoyed ministering to people and visiting those that were in nursing homes and hospitals. He also loved helping those in need and spending time with his many children and grandchildren. He was a caring, thoughtful, forgiving, kind, and loving individual. Freddie was preceded in death by his wife Alice (Goosby) Rush, parents Eugene “Fat Boy” Rush and Margeret (Lee) Rush, a sister, Sally Daniels, brothers Elbert Rush and James Rush, a daughter Janet Rush, and sons Melvin Rush and Bruce Rush. He is survived by his four daughters Annette (Rush) Kelley of Lorain, Patricia (Rush) Byers of Georgia, Carol (Rush) Drake of Lorain, and Stephanie (Rush) Glover of Lorain, and four sons Frederick Rush of Columbus, Ohio, Ron Rush of Lorain, Jerome Rush of Lorain, and Vincent Rush of Massachusetts. He is also survived by 21 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. A viewing will be held at 11am and the Celebration of Life Ceremony will follow at 12pm. on Saturday, January 8, 2022, at Living Word Church-South Campus, 2002 E. 28th St., Lorain. The burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery in Lorain. Social distancing and wearing a mask are required.
