Eva Mae Montgomery Harris, 79, formerly of Lorain, passed away January 6, 2025, in Cleveland, Ohio following a lengthy illness.
Eva was born on August 18, 1945, in Clarksdale, Mississippi. She moved to the Lorain, Ohio area with her family in 1953. She graduated from Lorain High School in 1964. While in high school she played the French horn in the marching band; she was the only black student participating at that time. She was first runner up as the 1964 Homecoming Queen and was voted the friendliest girl in her class. She also sang in the high school's acapella choir. Eva grew up as a member of Second Baptist Church of Lorain.
After graduating high school, she moved to California where she lived until relocating back to Lorain in 2002. While living in California, she worked as a passport agent for over 30 years before retiring.
Eva enjoyed reading, listening to music, working on puzzles, and watching sports and old movies on tv. She was also known for her love of traveling and going to Las Vegas.
Eva Mae Harris is survived by her sister, Priscilla Montgomery, and a host of nieces, nephews and other loving relatives and friends.
She was preceded death by her son, Brandon L Harris; her parents, William Sr. and Edna (Eason) Montgomery; her brothers, Douglas Montgomery, William Selma Montgomery Jr., Louis Montgomery, and Frederick Montgomery Sr.; and sisters Mazaline Stubbs, Stella Jenkins, and Louise Randleman.
A public memorial service will be held on a later date.
