Eva Mae Montgomery Harris

Eva Mae Montgomery Harris, 79, formerly of Lorain, passed away January 6, 2025, in Cleveland, Ohio following a lengthy illness.

Eva was born on August 18, 1945, in Clarksdale, Mississippi, the 7th of 9 children. She moved to the Lorain, Ohio area with her family in 1953. She graduated from Lorain High School in 1964. While in high school she played the French horn in the marching band; she was the only black student participating at that time. She was first runner up as the 1964 Homecoming Queen and was voted the friendliest girl in her class. She also sang in the high school's acapella choir. Eva accepted Christ at a young age at Second Baptist Church of Lorain.

After graduating high school, she moved to California where she lived until relocating back to Lorain in 2002. While living in California, she worked as a passport agent for over 30 years before retiring. Eva moved back to Lorain in 2002, where she renewed her membership with Second Baptist Church. She was a faithful member and attended church until her health prevented her from doing so.

Eva enjoyed reading, writing poetry, listening mostly to Gospel, Jazz and Classic R&B music, working on puzzles, watching sports and old movies on TV. She loved to travel and went to Las Vegas often, while living in California.

Eva is survived by her sister, Priscilla Montgomery of Lorain, Aunts Carrie Coleman, Katherine Paschal and Barbara Ann Gipson, all of Grand Rapids, MI, Aunt Joyce Cole of Humble, TX, Uncle David Montgomery of Abilene, TX, Uncle James Bass of Grand Rapids, MI, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other loving relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her son, Brandon L. Harris; her parents, William Sr. and Edna (Eason) Montgomery; her brothers, Douglas Montgomery, William Selma Montgomery Jr., Louis Montgomery, and Frederick Montgomery Sr.; and sisters Mazaline Stubbs, Estella Jenkins, and Louise Randleman.
