Dorothy Mae Cody, 85, of Lorain, passed away June 5, 2024, peacefully at her home, surrounded by her loving daughter, Denita Cody, following a lengthy illness. She was born August 14, 1938, in Tunica, Mississippi and had lived in Lorain for over 55 years.
Dorothy was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. She faithfully attended the Crehore Street Hall until they combined with the Skyline Drive Hall, both in Lorain.
Dorothy enjoyed visiting with her out-of-town family, going to outdoor concerts, planting flowers, playing cards with her daughters, listening to music, the peacefulness and serenity of sitting at the lake while watching visitors go by. What kept joy and comfort in her life was speaking with people about the Bible, it brought her great happiness and kept her so positive.
Dorothy will be lovingly missed by her surviving daughters, Gwendolyn Cody (Mrs. Gary Sanders), Deborah Cody, and Denita Cody; four grandchildren, Eric Johnson Sr., Brian Johnson Sr., Sonya Cody, and Melvin Lee Cody, 14 great grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren; surviving brothers Elijah Grant and General Grant, sisters, Willie Mae Manning, Millie Daisy Grant, and Beulah Lucille Grant; a host of other loving relatives and friends.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Lee Cody, her only loving son, Melvin L. Cody, her mother, Hattie Mae Grant, her brothers, Sidney Lawhorn, Charles Grant, and James Grant, and sister, Elvoner Grant.
The family will be holding private services.
