Dora Mae Thomas (née Turner), 82, of Lorain, passed away Friday, November 10, 2023, at the Amherst Manor Retirement Community following a lengthy illness.
She was born March 26,1941 in Birmingham, Alabama. She lived in Cleveland for many years until moving to Lorain to take care of her mother. Dora retired from General Electric after 25 years of service.
After moving to Lorain, she joined The Church on the North Coast where she was a faithful member. Dora was very active in the alter ministry, deliverance ministry, visitation of the homebound and the nursing home visitation ministry, served as an elder, and an active member of the prayer team. Dora would actively evangelize to dialysis patients while there to receive her own treatment. She was always concerned about the eternal condition of the souls so she was bold to witness to anyone she would meet about gaining eternal life.
Dora was known for her great sense of humor. Her favorite saying was “I used to love to dance, but now I dance for the Lord,” and “God loves him some Dora!”
Dora leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Annette Thomas, her grandson, Christopher Thomas, a host of cousins in Lorain and Birmingham, AL , special friends, Mariam Henderson-Rucker, Valerie Henson, and Cynthia Carter-Harris; and her church family.
She was preceded into death by her mother, Lucy Turner (née Gatlin).
Visitation will be Friday, November 17, 2023, from 10am until time of service at 11am at The Church on the North Coast, 4125 N Leavitt Road, Lorain Ohio. Burial will be in
