Derrick Smith (aka “Lil DT” & “Daytona 500”), 34 of Lorain, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, April 18, 2024, at his home. He was born on Wednesday, July 5, 1989, in Lorain, Ohio.
Derrick was a lifelong resident of Lorain, where he was well-known and loved throughout the city by many. He had a very sweet demeanor and kind soul. Everyone affectionately considered Derrick their baby, son, brother, and friend. Although Derrick’s time was short here on earth, he made an everlasting impact on everyone who he encountered, and he will be greatly missed. He battled with Mental Health issues for many years, but it did not detour him from loving on everyone and providing a helping hand to anyone in need.
Derrick received his GED. During his school years he enjoyed playing basketball and baseball. He was previously employed at Burger King and Marathon Gas Station. He was an avid music lover of old & new school music. He loved watching action movies. Derrick also loved spending time with his family members and friends, hanging out and attending various outings.
Derrick leaves to cherish his memory his mother, Ericka Smith of Columbus. He was blessed with two fathers, Tracy Williams Sr. of Lorain and the late Derrick Thomas Sr.; grandmother Portia Mayle of Lorain; sisters Daisja Smith and Nydia Smith both of Columbus; stepsisters: Kiarra Cannon-Brown of Elyria, Alexis Rose of Lorain, and Beverly Williams of Columbus; stepbrothers Dionte’ Williams of Cleveland, Devin Williams, Tracy Williams Jr., and Trayvon Williams all of Lorain; aunts Lisha Chisholm of Lorain, Rovella Williams-Roundtree of Columbus, and Lydia Thomas of Cleveland; uncles Jerry (Francesca) Chisholm and Dejuan Jones, Cornelius (Sheila) Moore all of Lorain, Roddal Dwight Moore Jr. of Akron, Jerry Moore Sr., and Stephone Thomas both of Elyria; and a host of cousins, other loving relatives, and friends.
He is preceded in death by his son Derrick Smith Jr; maternal grandparents Roddal Dwight Sr. and Barbara Moore; paternal grandparents Robert and Beverly Williams, and Maude and Walter Thomas; maternal great-grandparents Raymond and Anna Smith; and paternal great grandparents Money and Lucille Goines.
Visitation will be held Saturday, April 27, 2024, from 4:00pm-6:00pm at Brown-Robinson Funeral Home, 2652 Broadway Ave., Lorain, OH.
