Clarence Edward Carter Jr

Clarence Edward Carter Jr, affectionally known as ‘Papa C’ transitioned from this life March 7, 2022, at the University Hospital of Elyria following a lengthy illness. Clarence was born October 26, 1957, in Louisville, Mississippi but moved to Lorain at an early age and spent most of his life. After graduating from Admiral King High School, he attended Alcorn State University in Mississippi and earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a minor in Communications and Broadcasting. Following tradition and continuing in the family business, he furthered his education by obtaining a Bachelor’s degree from the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science. Clarence held licenses and worked in the states of Ohio, Mississippi and Alabama as a licensed funeral director and embalmer. He worked in the family business, Carter Funeral Home in Lorain, and Elyria. He also dedicated many years to Century Telephone (aka CenturyTel) as a lineman. Clarence had many gifts and talents. He developed an entrepreneurial spirit at a young age and begin disc jockeying at the age of 14. His love of music blossomed, and he later began CJ and Company Sound Company where he provided both sound engineering and disc jockeying services. He serviced local and national events, including well renowned recording artists. Well skilled at carpentry, he enjoyed building his own sounds systems and completing installations of sound systems throughout Ohio and Mississippi. A multi-talented musician especially as a bass player, Clarence’s love of reggae led him to establishing the band, Outlaws I&I and they provided enjoyment to many others throughout the nation. Clarence’s other hobbies included computers, camping, and mostly spending time with family and friends. Clarence leaves to cherish his memory one son Clarence (Tramika) Carter, III of Savannah, Georgia; daughters Alexandria Saulsberry of Chicago, Illinois and Ashley (Tyquan) Ivey of Lorain, Ohio; Grandchildren Xavier Carter of Elyria, Ohio; Cayla Carter of Leimen, Germany; Mason Carter and Zoey Carter, of Savannah, Georgia; and Ajani Ivey of Lorain, Ohio. One sister, Renee Davis of Fort Meyers, Florida; and brother, Dennis (Kenndria) Carter of Elyria and a host of other living relatives and friends. Clarence was preceded in death by his parents Clarence, Sr and Alruth Carter. Visitation will be held Tuesday, March 15, 2022 from 2:00PM until 6:00PM at Carter’s Funeral Services, 602 14th Street North, Columbus, Mississippi. Graveside Service will be held Wednesday, March 16, 2022 at 11:00AM at Greenwood Cemetery in West Point, Mississippi.
