Arrenza Cox was born in Tate County (Barr), Mississippi on November 16, 1946 to the late Archie and Tennessee (Cox) Miller. He was a faithful member of the West Looxahoma Church of Christ in Senatobia, MS until he moved to Sandusky, Ohio where he and his family worshiped at the East Parrish Street Church of Christ. He graduated from Tate County High School and then joined the United States Army where he proudly served his country.
On April 27, 1968, Arrenza married the love of his life, Bobbie Jean Harris, whom he loved and cared for dearly even as his own health began to fail. He was also a supportive and loving father to his children Anthony and Dominique. His sister-in-law, Bobby Ann Harris, has also been a devoted caretaker to the entire family.
During his life he was a dedicated, hard worker. He worked several jobs as a young man including a school bus driver with Tate County Schools. He retired from the US Army, retired from GMC, and retired from the Sandusky Police Department with 20 years of service. His lengthy list of hobbies included detailing cars, watching TV Westerns, cheering on the Pittsburgh Steelers, competing in his bowling league, and grilling up delicious food with his homemade seasonings.
In 2011, he was honored with the Community Impact Award by the National Council of Negro Women, Inc. (Sandusky Section) for his service and dedication to the community. In 2004 he also received a Certificate of Merit for his twenty years of faithful service and dedication to the Sandusky Police Department.
Arrenza was preceded in death by his father and mother, Archie and Tennessee Miller; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, John T. and Bessie Harris; his brother, Willie Miller; his brothers-in-law, Major Love, Waver T. Harris, Arnett Woods and Bobby Seal Harris; and sisters-in-law, Luceal Harris, Warnda Lynn and Gloria Newson.
He leaves to cherish his memory a loving wife, Bobbie Jean Cox; his children, Anthony (Danielle) Cox of Columbus, OH, and Dominique (Curtisha) Gillard of Sandusky, OH. He also leaves four grandchildren, Alivia, Camrie, Carma and Kai; his only sister, Addie B. Love of Coldwater, MS and one brother, R.C. (Glenda) Miller of Sandusky OH; a host of brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Edna Woods and Teresa Mosley of Chulahoma, MS, Helen Harris of Looxahoma, MS, Bobbie Ann Harris of Sandusky, OH, Kajavia & Michael Harmon of Oxford, MS, Wallace & Mary Harris of Oxford, MS, Travis & Rebeca Harris of Memphis, TN, and John & Linda Harris of Hickory Flat, MS. He also leaves some special cousins, Frank & Nettie Cox, Duke Cox & Queen Montgomery; a group of special friends, Danny Aaron, Eli Hunley and Mark Gilliam; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
Viewing will be Saturday, March 9, 2024, from 11am until the of his service at 12:30pm at the East Parish Street Church of Christ, 1219 E. Parish St, Sandusky OH 44870. Burial will be at Meadow Green Cemetery in Huron.
