Mr. Andrew Bernard Blakely Sr. 75, affectionally known as “Andy”, was born on April 24, 1948, in Lorain, Ohio to Macceo Blakely, Sr. and Dorothy (nee Kyles) Blakely-Atkinson. He was married to Brenda Sue (nee Leslie) Blakely in February of 1993.
Andrew was a man of faith; in his early years he was a member of Greater St. Mattew A.M.E. Church in Lorain, Ohio. He supported the church as well as ministries and sang in the choir. He later transitioned to become a member at Church of Christ in Elyria, Ohio where he continued his Christian walk.
Andrew attended Lorain City Schools and graduated from Admiral King High School in 1966. Andrew enlisted in the United States Marine Corps after graduation. He obtained an honorable discharge after getting injured on active duty. Andrew went back to school after his military career and obtained his Associate of Arts Degree from Lorain County Community College in Elyria, OH.
Andrew worked at U.S. Steel for 43 years as a millwright worker, where he later retired in 2013. He took advantage of retirement to travel and do the things he loved. As the hard-working man he was, he found a part-time job to keep him busy at the US Steel Learning Center as a janitor.
Andrew loved family. He enjoyed playing cards, dancing, fishing, loved music, and was an excellent bowler. He enjoyed making people smile and was truly a jokester, mannish and was always flirting.
Andrew transitioned on Thursday September 14, 2023, peacefully into his heavenly home, surrounded by family, at Mercy Regional Medical Center in Lorain, Ohio, Andrew remained in good spirits and continued to be himself. He was still being a jokester, mannish and flirting up to his transition.
Andrew leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 30 years, Brenda S. Blakely, daughters: Yulanda (Terry) Taylor of Amherst, Ohio and Andrea (Ken) Holloway of Columbus, Ohio, sons: Maurice Stiles (CherRae) of Lorain, Ohio, Andrew (DeMeka) Blakely II, of Redford, Michigan, and Carlton (Antoinette) Blakely Sr. of Summerville, South Carolina, siblings: Lamont Blakely of Westlake, Florida, Arlene (James) White of Newark, Delaware, Victor Blakely of Lorain, Ohio, and Elmer Atley of Lorain, Ohio.
