Alice Jean Goshen, 77, passed away unexpectedly on January 15, 2022, in Lorain, Ohio. Alice was born January 5,1945 in Blakely, Georgia to LC and Ruthie Mae Whitfield. She moved to Lorain Ohio at the age of four years old, where she lived until The Lord called her home. She attended Admiral King High School and Lorain Community College. Alice started her long-term commitment to this village/community as a head start worker for Lorain County Community Action Agency, and climbed her way to the esteemed position of the director of the Heap program, where she helped many in the community to get employment and training. She lived many years of her life in Riverside, California where she continued her career serving her community in that same capacity. Alice loved her children, family and community. If you were hungry, she fed you and if you needed a place to stay, her doors were always open. Her grandchildren describe her as funny, loving, caring and compassionate. She said what she meant and meant what she said. Ms. Goshen was preceded in death by her husband, Ervin Goshen, grandparents Anner Mae and Vassie Price, parents Charles and Ruthie Mae Whitfield, siblings Herman Whitfield, Dalphine Rogers and Newell Whitfield, and her son Alton Charles DeWayne Goshen Sr. She is survived by her siblings Luticia Ann Whitfield, Louisville KY, Martha Jane Beard, Lorain OH, Steve Whitfield (Delores), Lorain OH, Stanley Whitfield (Janice), Lorain OH, and Olivia Whitfield, Louisville KY, and sister-in-law Christine Whitfield, San Diego CA. She leaves behind to carry on her legacy her children, Adrienne Norman of Lorain OH, Aaron Goshen of Riverside CA, Aileen Bryant Wales (Darryl) of Louisville KY and Andre (Andy) Goshen of Lorain OH, as well as thirteen grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren, her dearest friend Barbara Jones Williams, and a host of nieces and nephews, her god-daughter Vickie Williams and her honorary sons Leonard and George McCall. A viewing will be held Saturday, January 22, 2022, from 9am until time of funeral service at 11am at Living Word Church, 2002 East 28th Street, Lorain. Social distancing and wearing a mask are required. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery, Lorain.
